| It wouldn't be good if he took the gig as an opportunity to protest. My $$$ are not going toward that shite at all.

The show is for music only. I saw McCartney in 2005 and there was no mention of that stuff. He wore a No More Landmines shirt as he did at every show. He knows people do not pay hard money for a ticket to get hit over the head with personal politics. That's why he consistently breaks tour revenue records when he's on the road. He puts on a fantastic show and the music says everything.
Really hope it happens. That would be a huge act to have on the city's resume. Best way to look at it I think is the acts that will come because he played here. The Stones were one of the selling features for him to consider Halifax.

McCartney rumours may be just sour grapes
Published Saturday April 12th, 2008
Timing is everything in the music business. Acts have to strike out on the road when their latest music releases are getting airplay, their names are front page news on the gossip tabloids . . . or if they just need to pad their bank accounts with an extra $50 or $100 million.
Which makes Sleuth more than a little bit suspicious about the timing of the "Paul McCartney may come to Halifax" story that broke early this week.
Concert promoter Harold 'Hype It' MacKay suggested he was "90 per cent sure" McCartney would play a concert on the Halifax Common this July. Harold is already promoting a Keith Urban concert at the Common this summer, a show Sleuth hears is not doing very well in advance ticket sales.
So how do we separate truth from hype?
We do know for sure that McCartney's tour people accepted an invitation from the Halifax Regional Municipality to tour the Commons site. While MacKay put a positive spin on the McCartney team visit, Halifax Mayor Peter Kelly has been a little more cautious. This is the guy who has already been bitten hard by the Celine Dion Debacle, and countless other rumours of bands expected to play HRM that never materialized.
Now for the fiction part. McCartney so far plans only one concert this year -- despite the need to pay ex-wife and a seal's best friend Heather Mills several million. Aside from a show in his native Liverpool on June 1, there's nothing else on Sir Paul's plate.
What is also interesting is that AEG Live, one of the world's largest tour promoters and the people bringing The Eagles to Moncton on Aug. 2, usually handle McCartney's tours. Do you think they would bring in another top act within weeks of their Eagles' show to split the concert take at both sites?
What Sleuth has heard whispered in the backrooms of Moncton and Halifax this week is the McCartney rumour was conveniently planted just a few days before tickets went on sale for The Eagles show in Moncton. Could it be a nefarious attempt to undercut Moncton's big summer show?
The concert biz can be cutthroat. But Sleuth has been told Moncton fans have nothing to worry about. We'll get to enjoy one of the top acts in music history this year at the Hill, and if we are patient and play our cards right, we will get at least one other huge act for next year.
Who knows . . . maybe it will be Paul McCartney.

Sleuth.... the same guy who said we would have three "A" class acts opening for The Eagles!
He obviously isn't reading the news or this forum. I've already posted a story saying he's going on tour, so obviously he'll more than the one show in Liverpool... and I did not make that up!
Sometimes I think Sleuth just makes it up!

Agreed wishblade. The "sleuth" should realize if you piss on a fire all you get is smelly smoke.
Loved the "AAA" opening acts. Fogerty yes. KT nope. Sam not even for the CAN CON.
Get along everyone get along.
Also I agree the Urban lineup is WEAK! Fans will get taken only so many times. The lineup with Alan Jackson / Brooks & Dunn was strong. An outdoor show should have at least two big acts.

| I must admit that the timing of the McCartney announcement certainly is suspect. You don't usually hear promoters or city officials talking about concert possibilities until after a deal has been signed. That's a surefire way to botch a concert deal. I try to keep as much of an open mind as possible but the whole thing reeks of desperation.

| One of the McCartney rumours floating around is that leaking the ex-Beatles name was a way to screw with Eagles ticket sales.

Look up a few posts
And on that note, I think its total bs, and I don't think I'm alone.

Open your minds, dudes!
Listen, I would feel the same way if a Moncton official or promoter did the same thing prior to a Halifax concert announcement. Concert officials just don't talk about concert rumours to the public before a deal is signed and sealed. It's the ultimate no-no and is usually the kiss of death for a show. What do you think McCartney and his people would do if they heard that officials in Halifax were saying to the media that they were 90% sure that a show will be happening in Halifax - prior to a deal being signed?? It's killed many shows in the past. That's why you don't hear Ian Fowler spreading around Moncton concert rumours to the media and he won't name any particular acts until the promoter has made the official announcement.

You may also might want to think about it this way. If there is a good chance that McCartney is actually coming they may want to leak it out before a lot of people go and buy Eagles Tickets.

This was the context that I saw it in. Reality is, I don't care to attend, I just hope it happens. Rolling Stones and McCartney are two of the biggest and it's great exposure for the maritimes.
