So most of us here have a love/hate relationship with these bands. Some people feel that the Hip are one of our greatest national treasures and pure Canadiana at it's finest. Other people just don't get the love for the Hip and would be just as ashamed if their kids listened to the Hip as they would Celine Dion or KD Lang.

On the other hand, others feel that Nickelback are the greatest thing since sliced bread and put on a great live show. Lately they swept the Juno Awards. In contrast to that, some view Nickelback as the worst thing to come out of Canada and the worst band in rock today and have spawned and supported a generation of copycat clone bands. They gained massive success with Silver Side Up and have replicated that exact formula with every album since.

It's not even close. The Hip are one of the most talented bands to ever come out of this country, and Gord Downie one of it's best songwriters...Chad Krouger on the other hand, well let's just say his songwriting leaves a lot to be desired. I can't ever believe we are having this discussion lol.

I honestly think The Hip were one of the best bands of the entire 90's, personally i rank them right up there with Pearl Jam. They albums "up to here" (late 80's), "road apples", "fully completely", "day for night" and "phantom power" are some of the best albums of the decade, and definitely some of the best Canadian albums of all-time.

As for Gord's rants, well more times than not they give the fans a glimpse of future Hip material. The most obvious proof of this is their "That Night in Toronto" dvd/cd. Throughout the dvd (most notably "at the hundredth meridian"), you'll hear lines & phrases that will later appear on their 2006 World Container album.

Both of these boring bands prove one thing... you can fool a lot of people, a lot of the time. Canada loves their own, good, bad and boring!!!!

Who do you like that is so groundbreakingly fresh and awesome?? Canada has had some great acts come out within the past few years.
